Ian Vernon Operations Director

Back
I have worked in the building trade since I left school at 15 and began an apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery. Prior to arriving at Harlow Timber Systems I have worked in the Boat Building trade, as a Production Manager for a Window Manufacturers, as the Manager of a Glue Laminated Bream Factory and various roles working my way through the ranks at Timber Frame and Roof Trusses specialists Wm Gimson & Son Ltd. I was finally promoted to Work Shop Foreman and was reposnible for over 60 staff. During my time there I completed a Diploma in Industrial Management.
I was headhunted by John Stockill in 1986 and remain impressed today by the way we genuinely endeavour to put our clients concerns first. Our approach and principles remain that of a family business and client care is paramanout in our daily working life.
Outside of work I spend a considerable amount of time with young people. They are the country's future. As a volunteer I mentor students at a local school in Coalville and sit on Youth Offending Panels aiding young people, who have committed minor offences, in carrying out reparation work for the local community. I also work for the Leicestershire Police Authority visiting detainees in custody suites and am Vice Chairman of the Ratby Parish Council.

David Stockill Managing Director

I joined the company, then trading as H&S Timber Systems, in 1986 following completion of a degree in Building Surveying. Starting as an estimator, I progressed to Estimating Manager and then to Sales Director all under the guidance of my father, John, who part-owned the business. During this time I found my vocation and also gained both a Certfiicate and Diploma in Management.
In 1998 my father became sole owner of the business and I developed the Sales Director role ensuring improved growth. It was in 2001, following the buy-out of H&S Timber by Harlow Bros, that I undertook the role I now enjoy - Managing Director.
I have continually pushed the company forward under its new name, Harlow Timber Systems, building new factory premises in 2004. I feel the company is in a very strong and respected position within the Timber Trussed Rafter Industry.
I bring passion for perfection, drive and strong leadership to my role. I thoroughly enjoy the communication with our clients and still believe in our family business principles of honesty, reliability and trust. I aim to provide a service and quality that our clients rightfully expect and deserve.
Outside of work I enjoy my family, golf, my classic car and bike collection and motorsport.
Dean Simpson Senior Estimator
dean.simpson@harlowts.co.uk
I have been in the Trussed Rafter business ever since I left school in 1981. I joined Timber Frame and Roof Trusses specialists, Wm Gimson & Sons Ltd, as a work experience person but eventually achieved the position of Truss Estimator after gaining experience in most areas of Gimson's day-today business.
In 2000 I felt it was time for a change so I jumped at the chance to progress my career with H&S Timber (now Harlow Timber Systems). During my time here we have developed from a £1m turnover company to a £3m+ turnover company in a new factory in Bardon. I feel that our best asset as a company is that we will always endeavour to meet our customers' requirements from enquiry through to on-site delivery.
I am an easy-going, positive member of the team who has over 25 years experience of the truss business. I will always try to find a solution to all types of Roof Truss enquiry and freely pass this expertise onto colleagues and clients alike.
Away from work my interests are mainly based around my family (married to Linda with a baby boy Jonah), walking, eating out, travelling, most sports (although taking part is getting more difficult now I've turned 42!), swimming and walking.
Stuart Dinsdale Sales Representative
stuart.dinsdale@harlowts.co.uk
I joined the company in 1995 at the age of 16. I initially worked mainly in the estimating department but also learned the art of design. During my training I spent time in every department of the company, even making trusses in the factory. Whilst training I attended college on a day release course, increasing my knowledge of the construction industry and in my first year as an apprentice I was awarded the Leicestershire Construction Trainee of the Year Award!
I have always been the man that does the jobs nobody else can/wants because I possess a gift to think outside the box. No roof has ever beaten me yet! I spearheaded our TJI operations when we went into that market but following the formation of Harlow TS I have moved into a role where I am on the road meeting our customers face to face. I find this new role most enjoyable and would struggle to work back in the office full time! I feel our best asset, at Harlow TS, is our impressive range of services.
I am still in education some ten years later and have attained a large array of qualifications, with my next goal being a degree in Business Studies.
Outside of work I am very sociable and partake in many activities. Traveling, music, cricket, football, poker and computers are my main passions. I live with my partner of 9 years.
Lee Ridgway Estimator
lee.ridgway@harlowts.co.uk
I joined Harlow Timber Systems straight from school in 1998. I currently work both as a member of the estimating team and in the role of I.T. Support for the office. I am a hard worker who's always happy to assist customers and colleagues wherever I can.
I feel that our best asset is always to give our full attention and commitment no matter the size of the job. Whether it be a small extension, a housing development or a student accommodation we will always use the same professional approach to achieve both the best design AND the best price for our client.
Away from work I enjoy anything to do with Sci-Fi (especially Star Wars) and playing and watching sports - cricket and football are my favourites. I also enjoy computer games.
Chris Bowns Designer
chris.bowns@harlowts.co.uk
I joined the company while it was still called H&S Timber Systems Ltd. During my period here I have trained in all aspects of the Trussed Rafters Industry and now have the knowledge and confidence to produce roof designs and provide advice for this ever-evolving market.
The key attributes I bring to Harlow Timber Systems are an ability to work on my own initiative, while also being a keen team member, and a natural ease in communicating with our clients. As a company I feel our key attribute is our ability to offer a cost effective trussed rafter solution to complex roofing requirements.
My main interests outside of work are music concerts, classic cars and motorsport.
Chris Wright Designer
chris.wright@harlowts.co.uk
I joined the company in late 2002 and my clients are mainly the larger housing companies. I am in charge of the company's job-tracking system and responsible for organising the design team's workload. I also assist the company's I.T. Support staff. I am dedicated and hard working and in 2004 I successfully completed (with credit) an Institute of Wood Science course, which included an educational trip to a Swedish mill.
As a company we value customer service and quality of product above all else. In the last 12 months we have gained PEFC and FSC certification, and have recently achieved our CE mark. This is all evidence that we aim to be at the forefront of the industry in terms of quality, scope and environmental friendliness.
Outside of work I enjoy Star Wars, PC and Xbox 360 gaming, cricket, motorsport, reading and electronic music
Jim Webster Senior Designer
jim.webster@harlowts.co.uk
Following a YTS position I was taken on a 3-year apprenticeship with RTE Ltd (part of Phoenix Timber) where I tackled all aspects of Roof Trusses from quoting to design, production, manufacture and installation. During this period I also studied part-time to achieve BTEC & HNC Certificates in Construction.
I finally specialised in the design of Trusses and at 21 was employed by Wm Gimson & Sons Ltd of Leicester as Senior Designer. Following a short spell in the design office at Mitek I joined H&S Timber (now Harlow Timber Systems) in April 1995, again as Senior Designer. Later in this year I was asked to become Wolf Systems Ltd's representative on the TRA Technical Committee board.
I feel my main asset to our company are my 22 years experience of all aspects of roof trusses - from initial quotes right through to actually fixing them. When I began all plans and details were hand drawn! I am honest and loyal and hope that this comes across to our clients.
I am 38 years of age and remarried in May of 2006 - after dating my wife for 9 years! I have a son called Barry who is 14. My interests away from work are football (and football management), computers and enjoying family time with my wife and son.
Sharon Jory Accounts Administrator
sharon.jory@harlowts.co.uk
I joined Harlow Timber Systems in 2004 to work in accounts.
As a company, one of our best assets is that 'small family business' feeling that enables us to offer that personal touch across all aspects of the business, with most of our customers being on first name terms with members of our staff, which gives them confidence whether placing orders, designing projects or arranging deliveries.
Pauline Hurd Logistics Administrator
pauline.hurd@harlowts.co.uk
Having previously worked in the timber industry I joined Harlow Timber Systems almost 5 years ago now to work in the Production Department. I compile the delivery schedules, a job which requires I work in timely and close fashion with the Production Supervisors and Drivers. I also work as assistant to Ian Vernon.
Outside of work I very much enjoy gardening as a hobby but I also now have 2 young grandchildren with whom I try and spend as much time as possible.
Adel Lant Administrator
adel.lant@harlowts.co.uk
I joined Harlow Bros in April 2001 and was approached to work for Harlow Timber Systems by David Stockill in November 2005.
My role as Admin/Receptionist involves meeting and welcoming clients to our Company. I enjoy working along with a very devoted team, not only in the Sales office but also in the Accounts and Production departments.
Our best asset I would say is the "excellent service we provide to our customers."
