The Directors

David Stockill - Managing Director

I joined the company, then trading as H&S Timber Systems, in 1986 following completion of a degree in Building Surveying. Starting as an estimator, I progressed to Estimating Manager and then to Sales Director all under the guidance of my father, John, who part-owned the business. During this time I found my vocation and also gained both a Certificate and Diploma in Management.

In 1998 my father became sole owner of the business and I developed the Sales Director role ensuring improved growth. It was in 2001, following the buy-out of H&S Timber by Harlow Bros, that I undertook the role I now enjoy - Managing Director.

I have continually pushed the company forward under its new name, Harlow Timber Systems Ltd, building a new factory premises in 2004 at Bardon Leicestershire and a second in 2008 located at Kettering, Northants. The company now has an annual turnover in excess of £4.8million with 45 staff over the two sites.

I feel the company is in a very strong and respected position within the Timber Trussed Rafter Industry. The company now provides the construction sector with a wide range of products all manufactured under one roof. Harlow Timber Systems is continually pushing forward with new products and innovations to meet the latest legislation and environmental requirements.

I bring passion for perfection, drive and strong leadership to my role. I thoroughly enjoy the communication with our clients and still believe in our family business principles of honesty, reliability and trust. I aim to provide a service and quality that our clients rightfully expect and deserve.

Outside of work I enjoy my family, golf, fishing and rugby, where I am a coach for Leicester Forest RFC. When there is spare time for myself I enjoy my classic car and bike collection.

The Managers

Stuart Dinsdale - Kettering Commercial Manager

I joined the company at the age of 16 on an apprenticeship scheme. After excelling in my first year I was crowned Leicestershire's construction trainee of the year.

I have held many roles within the company ranging from an Estimator to a Sales Representative. I always strive to do the best job possible in which ever role I hold within the company.

I have achieved many qualifications and have attended many training courses during my employment with Harlow Timber Systems which have given me my extensive knowledge and experience.

After spending 15 years at Head office I took on the challenge of launching our new Kettering branch. I now hold the position of Commercial Manager for the whole Harlow Timber Systems group.

I am currently 18 months into my new position and continue to relish the challenge which opening a new branch offers.

Chris Bowns - Bardon Office Manager

I joined Harlow Timber Systems following the completion of my A level education in 1998.

My initial position within the company allowed me to expand my knowledge through further education at Leicester College. By 2002 I had complete both an ONC and HNC qualification in Building Studies which gave me extensive knowledge of the building industry as a whole.

I also trained in all aspects of the trussed rafters and engineered joist market both internally and externally of Harlow Timber Systems. My education and experience resulted in the knowledge and confidence to produce designs and provide advice for the ever-evolving market as a designer.

In 2009 I resumed my further education at Loughborough College and achieved a HNC qualification in Contract Management.

In 2010 I was offered and gladly accepted the position of Office Manager at Harlow Timber Systems, Bardon.

My main interests outside of work including, spending time with my family, classic cars and scooters, music concerts, and motorsport.

The Production Managers

Gary Jarvis - Bardon Production Manager

I joined Harlow Timber Systems Ltd, formerly H & S Timber Systems Ltd in 1984 after deciding to enter the timber trade at the age of 16.

After spending several years with H & S Timber Systems I left the company for a short period to pursue other areas of the construction industry.

On rejoining H & S Timber Systems I assumed the role of the Workshop Foreman.

Given my knowledge and experience I was asked by the Harlow Bros Directors to set up a roof truss and timber frame factory at Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire. Given the success of the Burton Upon Trent factory I was heavily involved in the building of Harlow Timber Systems second factory at Kettering, Northamptonshire.

In 2010 I was promoted to the Production Manager of Harlow Timber Systems at Bardon, Leicestershire.

Outside of work I spend considerable time with the Ibstock Football Team in both a coaching and selection capacity. My hobbies include keeping fit and putting my construction knowledge to good use while renovation the family home.

Shaun Price - Kettering Production Manager

Having previously worked in the timber industry for 11 years, I joined Harlow Timber Systems in February 2003. I started on the shop floor and progressed to supervisor within the production area at the Bardon Hill Office.

Since working for the company I have furthered my knowledge going to North Warwickshire & Hinckley College and achieved a Certificate in First Line Management, and a level 4 Diploma within Management.

Having opened the new factory at Kettering, as Operations Manager I helped out with the layout of the production area/yard layout to ensure effective and efficient operation.

I feel within the organisation that we give full guidance and commitment to all our customers, no matter the size of the job.

Out of work my interests include motorsports, poker, music and motorbike restoration.

The Designers

Jim Webster - Senior Designer

Following a YTS position started when I was 16 after leaving school, I was taken on early and was put on a 3-year apprenticeship with Rainham Timber Engineering Ltd (part of Phoenix Timber) where I tackled all aspects of Roof Trusses from quoting to drawing plans, design, production, manufacture and installation. During this period I also studied part-time to achieve BTEC & HNC Certificates in Construction. While at RTE I learnt to use the Gang Nail design program and the CAD drawing program.

At 21 I flew the nest and the bright lights of London and joined Wm Gimson & Sons Ltd (Raab Karcher Ltd) of Leicester as Senior Designer. During my time at Gimsons I trained and used the Mitek design program to its highest level.

In March 2005 I had a short spell in helping out the Mitek design office before joining H & S Timber (now Harlow Timber Systems) in April 1995, again as Senior Designer. At HTS I have trained and used the Wolf design to its highest level on all its products and in 2005 I was asked to become one of Wolf Systems Ltd's representatives on the TRA Technical Committee board which I am still on.

I feel my main asset to the company is my 27 years experience of all aspects of roof trusses, from initial quotes right through to actually fixing them. When I first began all plans and details were hand drawn and a simple truss took 15mins to design on a computer. With the changing needs of the industry and the expansion of products sold, my knowledge has grown on all kinds of different products sold by the company outside of roof trusses which include Easi Joist floors and Smart roof systems. I particularly specialise in feature work in oak and Douglas fir.

I am honest and loyal and hope that this comes across to our clients.

I married my wife, Charlotte, in May of 2006 - after dating her for 9 years! I have a son called Barry who is 19. My interests away from work are football/basketball (and football management), I enjoy strategic computer games and enjoying family time with my wife and son (when he is not in the USA playing basketball).

Chris Wright - Designer

I joined the company in late 2002 and my clients are mainly the large housing companies. I also assist the company's I.T. Support staff. I am dedicated and hard working and in 2004 I successfully completed (with credit) an Institute of Wood Science course, which included an educational trip to a Swedish mill.

As a company we value customer service and quality of product above all else. We were one of the first truss manufacturers in the country to achieve PEFC and FSC certification, and have also achieved our CE mark. This is all evidence that we aim to be at the forefront of the industry in terms of quality, scope and environmental friendliness.

Outside of work I enjoy PC and Xbox 360 gaming, and watching American football (Indianapolis Colts), cricket (England and Leicestershire) and Formula 1 (McLaren). I am also a big fan of science fiction, be it movies, games, or novels.

OiKa Law - Senior Technical Designer

I started working for Harlow Timber Systems in September 2013.

Before my career change I worked for a company called Wolf Systems Ltd, they are the nail plate/metal web supplier and provider of the design software for Harlow Timber Systems.

I started at Wolf Systems as a trainee designer straight after university in Year 2007. After a period of 5 years I was promoted to Senior Designer and team leader for the development of the Metal web programme. I was also a senior programme trainer, for all system users requiring the development of staff in the design software. This is where I gained all of my experience on timber engineering.

I did Architecture when I was at Leicester University, so I was always interested in building construction and enjoyed making the model for each of my projects.

Being in Wolf Systems, it only allowed me to see a small part of the timber industry and this is why I have changed my career path to work with Harlow Timber Systems. So I can be more involved with the project that I do and be able to see what is designed like on site. I am confident in using the design software to design any complicated roof or floor. I also learnt how to use Autodesk Revit to do 3D modeling in timber frame buildings in recent years.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending my time with my dog and family. I also like playing piano, learning different languages and I do a bit of sports.

The Estimators

Dean Simpson - Senior Estimator

I have been in the Trussed Rafter business ever since I left school in 1981. I joined Timber Frame and Roof Trusses specialists, Wm Gimson & Sons Ltd, as a work experience person but eventually achieved the position of Truss Estimator after gaining experience in most areas of Gimson's day-today business.

In 2000 I felt it was time for a change so I jumped at the chance to progress my career with H&S Timber (now Harlow Timber Systems). During my time here we have developed from a £1m turnover company to a £3m+ turnover company in a new factory in Bardon. I feel that our best asset as a company is that we will always endeavour to meet our customers' requirements from enquiry through to on-site delivery.

I am an easy-going, positive member of the team who has over 30 years experience of the truss business. I will always try to find a solution to all types of Roof Truss enquiry and freely pass this expertise onto colleagues and clients alike.

Away from work my interests are mainly based around my family (my wife Linda and our two boys Jonah and Harry), walking, eating out, travelling, swimming and most other sports.

Lee Ridgway - Estimator

I started working for Harlow Timber Systems, formally H & S Timber Systems in 1998 straight from school as an apprentice.

Since then I have gained a huge about of experience in the field of engineered wood products. I am fluent in both roof truss and Easi joist design. I can also turn my hand to timber frame buildings as well. If needed I could design an entire building from the walls to the floor and up to the roof. There is no job that is too small or too large, I have helped to design extensions and garages that cost £300.00, and worked on complex designs that have cost £100,000,00

My other responsibilities within the company include looking after all of the IT systems at both our main office in Bardon Hill near Coalville and our other branch at Kettering. I am also the administrator for our account and distribution software.

In my spare time I have a wide variety of interests; these include gaming on both consoles and PC's, playing golf, watching cricket, cooking, reading manga and watching anime.

James Cave - Kettering Estimator/Designer

I joined Harlow Timber Systems in March 2007 after working in the Retail Industry for 4 years. I had very little knowledge of roof trusses when I started as a junior estimator, but after completing my training and learning alongside my fellow colleagues, I believe I have built up a very good understanding of how roofs work.

Alongside roof trusses I also specialise in Easi-Joists and Smartroof design, which come as welcome break from quoting trusses, but also make you take a different approach when coming to the design.

I believe there is not roof/floor design that I cannot quote, and welcome all jobs regardless of scope and technical design. I also pride myself on adding that extra detail when dealing with my clients and would like to think that every project that passes through my hands gets a professional service from start to finish.

Outside of work I enjoy keeping fit, participating in sports and socialising with friends and family.

Rob Michael - Estimator/Designer

I started working for HTS in September 2014, following on from 4 years' Service at the Head Office Long Whatton. I have been Estimating and Designing Roof Truss and Metal Web Floor components for four and a half years now, dealing with Self Builds, Extensions, Timber Frames and Commercial Projects.

All projects are of interest to me regardless of their size and complexity, as every Customer is different, irrespective of their Project. Creating a good relationship and making sure they get the best product for their needs is very important.

Prior to Harlow Bros, I worked for an I Beam Supplier from 2005, but moved to Harlow's following redundancy during the Recession.

I enjoy DIY when the need presents itself. I have an old Terrace House, built in the late 1800's which needed fully modernising and it would seem constant tinkering.

The practical skills are invaluable, and the feeling of achievement when you have created something can never be underestimated. Although, much of the credit should be taken by My Father, who I have been Apprentice to over many Years.

Outside of my work I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my Family. We had our First Child in September 2013, my Personal Life is somewhat busier than it used to be. I am learning many new skills, as well as being constantly entertained.

Ben Hammond - Business Development

I joined HTS in 2016 having spent 16 years with the Travis Perkins Group. Starting my career with them part time whilst studying sports science. I progressed through various roles originating from the shop floor of Wickes, through to management within Travis Perkins branch. My role expanded and evolved as I undertook operations, logistics and sales strategy roles across the midlands. After a short while in the manufacturing side, I welcomed the opportunity to join the team here at Bardon.

My role involves the management and maintenance of sales. Specifically this involves supporting and nurturing our current customers, but also I am tasked with achieving new business too. Harlow's prides itself on service and delivery, one of the attractions to the company, and this underpins the strategy of my role. I am excited about this opportunity and believe there is huge scope and potential to make a difference to the building sector through the provision of Harlow's products and materials.

On a personal note I married my wife 6 years ago, 12 years after we initially got together. Now with 2 toddlers our life is consumed by them – but I do try and get out on the football pitch or on my bike (in fact any sport) and visit my local whenever the social calendar of kids' parties or days out permits!

Administrative

Sharon Jory - Accounts Administrator

I joined Harlow Timber Systems in 2004 to work in accounts.

As a company, one of our best assets is that 'small family business' feeling that enables us to offer that personal touch across all aspects of the business, with most of our customers being on first name terms with members of our staff, which gives them confidence whether placing orders, designing projects or arranging deliveries.
