HARLOW TIMBER SYSTEMS EXPANDS INTO METAL WEB

As we have partnered with Wolf Systems Ltd. in the manufacture of trussed rafters for many years and so it is a natural and simple progression for us now to look to the future of engineered floors and, as market leaders in timber engineering, we have decided to use their system of open metal floor beam design.
Metal webs are “V” shaped 1mm Galvanised steel; these are combined with integrated connector plates top and bottom.
The metal webs combined with parallel stress graded timber flanges create the easi-joist® beams.

► easi-joist® sizes can match the depths of solid joists ranging from 195mm to 418mm.
► easi-joist® software is a uniquely developed integrated layout and engineered design software that improves speed, efficiency and quality of joist designs.

Easi-Joist System
The ‘easi-joist’ beams are formed from a timber top and bottom rail with galvanised metal pressed V webs between. The large open web design provides easy access for all electrical and mechanical services. The ‘easi-joists’ eliminate problems with floor members twisting or bowing leading to the inevitable squeaky floor. Site installation times are greatly reduced as the floors are made to measure and, being a minimum of 72mm in width, they are more stable when setting out and provide a greater area for fixing. The ‘strongback’ replaces the traditional herringbone strutting and provides the rigidity to the whole system giving a stability and solidity second to no other timber floor. The ‘easi-joist’ beams are lighter than solid timber, can span further, and due to the smaller timber content, are also environmentally friendly.

Engineered floors are the fastest-growing sector of the engineered wood products market. Wolf Systems’ easi-joist metal web floor system was designed specifically to provide a solution to this trend.
Easi-joist is now the only metal web floor system to have gained Robust Detail Approval, Irish Agrément Board Certification and European Technical Approval.
The Robust Detail approval is a significant development for Wolf Systems with easi-joist frequently becoming the preferred method of floor construction for many contractors throughout the UK and Ireland.

Robust Standard Detail (EFT3) separates floors in timber frame construction, particularly in flatted developments, which confirms the strength and suitability of easi-joist beams in this form of construction. The main advantage to contractors is that when Wolf’s easi-joist is used in timber frame flats, constructed as per E-FT-3, pre-completion sound testing is not required to prove compliance with Part E of the Building Regulations in England and Wales which saves time, money and the uncertainty of pre-completion testing.
