ROMAN GATE REVEALS TRUSSED RAFTERS ATTRIBUTES
Roman Gate, however, a commercial development completed in Lincoln, does demonstrate many of the advantages offered by prefabricated trusses; supplied by Trussed Rafter Association member, Harlow Timber Systems.
The specialist manufacturer has employed Wolf software and components to help create the complex roofscape envisaged by Brian E Wright Architects as the project’s lead consultant. J H Hallam Contracts Ltd is the developer.
The roofscape is unusually complex for a commercial property and shows what is known as a bloomfield hip construction. This is, however, a standard option within the Wolf design software and was readily translated into a cutting schedule and component list for assembly on Harlow’s highly automated production line.
Harlow Timber Systems fabricated a total of 170 trusses in 13 different configurations for the project. The 35 degree slope angle trusses, with spans of up to 12.1 metres, feature a raised tie that facilitated the installation of a suspended ceiling system to conceal the structural steelwork integrated into the valley areas.
The total value of the trussed rafter package supplied by Harlow Timber Systems was £15,000.
