HARLOW TIMBER SYSTEMS SHOUTS 'FOUR' FOR ROOF DESIGN

Trussed Rafter Association (TRA) member, Harlow Timber Systems, designed, manufactured and supplied a total of nearly 200 back-to-back flat-top trusses, as well as a set of standard pitched duo-trusses, for the work at Lingdale Golf Club. The £25K contract was undertaken for main contractor, Baggaley & Jenkins, while Strong O’Meara was Harlow’s sub-contractor carrying out the erection.

As a medium-sized building contractor based in Mansfield, Baggaley & Jenkins covers the whole of the East Midlands, working in the education, retail, leisure and commercial sectors as well as being involved in both new build and regeneration work for the social housing sector. Depending on the scale of the structure involved, the company chooses to utilise timber trussed rafters for the speed of construction and reliability offered.

The trusses for the new clubhouse roof, which span up to 14 metres, were produced with a 0.7 percent cross fall to avoid the need for the flat roofing contractors to utilise firring (ultra slim wedge) pieces or expensive cut-to-falls insulation to ensure rainwater drains away rather than ponding.

Harlow Timber Systems employs Wolf systems’ software for designing and manufacturing trusses and other timber elements such as engineering floor joists. It can, in common with most other TRA members, also offer customers the added protection of treating trusses in the factory against rot or insect attack.
